Have you tried the Cauldron tofu from Sainsburys in the chiller section? I bought some but haven't used it yet.
When my dd went veggie over 20 years ago I used to make tofu. What a perfomance. It used to take hours of boiling soya beans and then straining them through muslin if I recall right. It still tasted foul to me. Sorry I am not a vegetrian.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

I saw a packet of tofu mix you just add water to in the Chinese supermarket. I guess this is more convenient than making from scratch. You can make it into soya milk or tofu depending on how much water you put in.
Maybe you can ask your local Chinese takeaway if they have any tofu to sell to you?Lurker extraordinaire! no. 4950

Try this link:

There are plenty of sites that tell you how, but I chose this one because it is british ... simpler for weights/measurements..
The first section 'getting started' is how to make the soya milk, which can be used as you would any soya milk (but I'm not sure if you can make tofu from shop bought soya milk...). then you make the tofu. It's not particularly hard. Nigari gives a better result than Epsom Salts, but it is harder to find.
Hope this helps! (I haven't made tofu for a long time, but the method in that website is pretty much how I used to do it).0 -
Hellooo :hello:
Me again! I accidentally picked up 2 packets of silken tofu because it said 'firm' on it somewhere  I never use silken tofu, I tried to use this in a thai-style curry and it all fell apart
I was wondering whether anyone had any good ideas of what I can use the other package for?
TIA,
Caroline

I add silken tofu to pretty much anything, but it's particularly good in pasta sauces. I add it to a tomatoey sauce and its delicious!0

What about using it as a salad dressing?
Blend it (use a stick blender/ food processor - mashing it with a fork doesn't have the same result for some reasons) along with peanut butter, soy sauce and mirin if you have some and maybe some sesame oil.
Stick it on cold steamed broccoli - it really is lovely.0 -
Sounds like chocolate mousse time to me...
Pop your silken tofu into a blender and blitz it until smooth, and add melted chocolate (and if you like it, a small amount of alcohol of your choice...). Blend well, transfer to a bowl and stick it in the fridge for an hour or so.
Sorted! :rotfl:
