Default on credit file

Hi

I have just noticed that Capital one issued a default on my account last October. I do not dispute teh default as i entered into a reduced payment program with my creditors in 2006. All of my other creditors defaulted me at that time, except Capital One. Is it possible to get them to amend this info, as it means that the rest of my defaults will fall off my record, but the Capital One default will remain. I planned to get a mortgage once the defaults had gone, now i may have to wait two more years.

Also, i noticed that not only did Capital One issue the default, but the debt collectors that they have just asked me to start paying submitted a default entry in the past week. How can i default on the same account twice? Can i get one of them removed?

Many thanks for your help.

Contact the credit reference agnecy and they will put a note on your file. Tell them that the default date is incorrect and that there have been 2 defaults issued on one debt.

There can only be one default per debt.

The date of default is also incorrect so this is a breach of the Data Protection Act. The default date is the date that you defaulted on the original agreement (or within 6 months of this), not the date that the default was issued. You should write to them stating that the date they informed the CRA's is incorrect and you require them to amend this. Also to instruct their agent to remove the second default.
