  • i broke my tooth on this stuff, never eating musleli again
  • The only muesli we've had for some time has been Lidl and we've never had any problems with it. In our opinion it's definitely better value than any other supermarket own brand and betters Jordans for value and quality. It really is good value at it's normal price so at special offer price we'll be stocking up for as long as the best before dates permit.

I don't have any financial interest in promoting Lidl stuff and unless you want something from the Mondy/Thursday Special offers if you shop at Lidl's any other time you won't have to wait long.

I love their luxury museli - and will be bulk buying - thanks! I tend to go shopping to a quiet lidl, about 7pm in the pouring rain when it's dark - rarely any queues then!;)

Aldi are the same with just one checkout in use, and a 3 mile queue.

No wonder they have cheap prices, as they have no staff. >:(
Seem to have no heating as well. ;)

We've complained about Lidl stuff twice, and each time been given a bag full of free stuff in compensation (randomly selected by the manager, not by us, but beggars can't be choosers).

Not a problem with their customer service or their stuff in general.

If it tastes like cr*p don't expect a refund. Do expect lots of abuse from the manager thou!

Looks like your case is isolated, judging by the experience of all the others here, and me too. I have taken several things back and the only problem is that you need to take them back to the same branch you got them from.

Lidl special luxury muesli is fabulous. If you don't like its "grittiness" then you shouldn't be eating muesli - try the over-sugared over-salted over-processed substitutes that are other breakfast cereals instead. (Special K being healthy? I think it's 25% sugar!!)

And those who complain about the length of the queues at Lidl don't seem to have realised that the checkout staff are incredibly quick (bonus-driven I believe). The other day I was in Safeway and the girl there looked like she was doing performance art, passing items across the scanner in perfect slow motion. It was very annoying.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

A bit of a newie to the site, but not to these discount stores - Lidl and Aldi, and to a certain extent, Netto.

They run differently for a number of reasons. Lidl and Netto are esentially the same in their format, mostly because Lidl is run by many ex-Aldi staff. The reason why it feels you get less service is because these companies run purely on productivity in the stores, and having staff around just to say hello and 'Can I help you' costs a lot of money. The money they save on these costs are passed directly to the customer. One other key thing is the Aldi is either the second or third largest private company in the world (by sales), the company is massive and has immence buying power. With regards to staff pay, yes, certainly in Aldi and to some extent in Lidl, the greater the productivity (sales divided by hours used by staff), the more pay the staff get. Several years ago when I was an Area Manager for them (yes, a graduate, but I was nice!! honest), some staff were earning over £11 per hour - that is great money! Above all, generally the quality of the stuff is excellent - did you know, Aldi OWN their own chocolate factory - try it, it is great.

I left a number of years back, but still find myself going into them now and again.

Overall, great shops, accept that their customer service may not be fab (notice how none of the stores advertise thier numbers - they are all ex-directory - so as not to disturb the staff from working), but the quality is high and I still like them!

The Store Manager is empowered to resolve many issues, and im my time, if ever a complaint came up to me, I went round to the customers house and apologised with a hugh box of goodies - do'nt know if that still goes on, but there you go, a bit of history for you.

    Great site by the way!
