Hi, just read and do feel for you, most of the people have already posted what i would suggest. I dont know if it is possible in your situation, but could you look into getting a lodger or another student?
I know if you house a student from another country while they study here for six months then they pay you for doing it. I'm not sure where to find out about it, if i find out i will post or pm you.Make £10 a day challenge March 2013 £101.24 / £240 :j

I asked for help on a different board until realising it was the wrong board and came to this one and said Id try and get another job and was attacked and called a bad mother in doing it, so I guess I wont be doing that!
Ive applied to DIY SOS. do you have to contribute anything? I can contribute a bit but not a lot! x0 -

Dont let it bother you if someone says that. They obviously do not understand, you just want what is best for you and your child. xxAuntie Savingsgirl 24/9/06 :j0 -
Hi Miss E
Hope all went well today with student finance officer, have just read the post for the first time and any of the advise I could come up with was already given.
I got an access to learning payent last year and this as I was renting my home off my ex and not entitled to housing benefit, so cant see why the wouldnt help you out.
I would go see the lone parent advisor at the jobcentre when I decided to come to uni mine was very helpful with regards to helping me find charities that gave grants to lone parents student.GC: £400/ £00 -
You can voluntarily contribute, but they understand people who apply are in dire straits and do not pressure you to do anything.
We contributed £600, which I think was the max. contribution at the time - we were so greatful to have it done!0 -
I got the form today for ALF but when I read the accompanying notes there's a big fat ugly line that says 'We will not give the grant because you have not budgeted or used your loans irresponsibly' or words to that effect. I guess trusting a male prat and ploughing every penny into a deposit with him isn't exactly good budgeting!
They also consider your income over the whole year (so you would divide your loans/grants by for a weekly figure) So in essence, I'm writing down income I dont actually have coming in cos I spent it. I said I had £1300 a month coming in, but I hadn't considered my loan, thats another £90 a week and I have to write down my childcare grant too (£80 a week!) plus another £40 in other grants. So my income just went up by another £210 a week. I'm never going to get anything :-(0 -
Hi missk_ensington,
I'm sorry to hear of the terrible time you are having at the moment and glad that you have had lots of help from the Old Stylers, but I think the time has come to move your thread over to the benefits board where you should get even more help.
Good luck

Pink winged- that is fine. I can manage months on the advice alrady given. By the way, whoever posted the recipe for Chicken soup I made some last night from the Roast remains and crusty old veggies and made enough delicious soup to give myself 2 huge bowls, freeze 2 bowls, feed my son and send the in-laws a huge bowl! All from food I'd normally throw away!
I also tried someones carrot cake recipe, but it was soggy in the middle. No idea why?!?!0 -
PS. Pink-winged- have the Thanks buttons gone forever now??0

I'm not sure missk_ensington. Andrea's post here might throw some light on it for you.
