debtor gone abroad

i did some work for a family who have now up stickcs and emigrated to New Zealand, unfortunately they owe me £6000. Is there any way of getting it back?

    Send them a letter to their new address, (if possible) or via a relative in the Uk, to pay within x period or you will take them to court.

    Then take them to court, and they will have a county court judgement against them.

    Theres nothing much else you can do, unless they have assets in the UK or on the chance that one day they return to the UK, when you will be able to claim interest and charges on the debt.

    Also if they try to get credit in New Zealand, the agencies may well refer to experian for the credit history in the UK and a county court judgement against them would be some pain on their end. So ensure you take both Mr and Mrs to court.
