Car Sale through an Auction!!!

I have a question?  

I recently sold my car through an Auctin, and therefore gave them all my registration Documets.

The queston I have is I need to notify the DVLA that i no longer have the car but since I no longer have the documents How do I prove this.

I have written to the DVLA and advised them of this fact but i have been told that until the new keeper sends in the documents to re-register the process is NOT complete.

Can i get into trouble if he dose not register the car and get get introoublr with the police.

The DVLC advice is that if you sell your vehicle through a motor auction, you must either send in the V5/1 (two part registration document) to notify disposal or the V5/3 (red section of the three part registration document) or V5C/3 (yellow section of the registration certificate) to notify disposal into the trade.

I would try visiting or phoning your local DVLA office - they are often easier to deal with then the faceless DVLC in Swansea.
