How do you manage with so little left?

After paying all my bills (rent, auto, electric, etc.) I only have about $600 left to spend for the entire month. This includes food and having fun. I was wondering is anyone else in this tough situation and how do you manage? Thanks!

Sincerely,
Daniel

  • I think you've been helped out food-wise in previous posts and personally I've no idea what the cost of having fun in the USA is.

Reading the OS threads is my advice.

  • I would love to have the equivalent of $600 for eating and having fun, especially at the prices in the USA, if I recall prices are pretty much dollars for pounds there. Get your priorities right and think yourself lucky you have that much.

By the way, I have to feed a family of four, pay council tax, phone and cable bills, gas, insurance and various other bills on probably about the same amount each month.

  • good grief! how much food and fun do you need?...how many are you feeding? that seems a lot to me after all the bills are paid even at 1.5 dollars to the pound that's £400, I average about £200, usually a little less, to feed a family of four + two mastiffs and a cat... you could try staying home, it's amazing how much fun you could have there. :D

  • yeah only two.

I'm new to this myself, just getting started in trying to budget our grocery shopping as money has suddenly become extremely tight.

The cost of living is pretty high in the US now. The US is in a economic crisis and President Obama isn't doing anything about it. I live by myself and barely eke out with $600 and sometimes I starve because of this. :(
I have to eat spaghetti for 3 days straight to save money. :(

    Sincerely,
    Daniel
