Remember it doesnt need to be a graduate job. Many companies will take you on in a non graduate role and still sponsor you for training. Many of these are even better paid as well.
I know the accountants we use wont take anyone one with out a degree and havent done so for years . They are one of the top 10 firms , and have had to lay off staff this yearVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
How much accounting theory was in your degree? It could be that since times are tough and there are a lot of applicants, the HR departments are throwing away perfectly good CVs because they don't understand the relevance of your degree to these positions.
Is there any mileage in studying for one of the intermediate book keeping qualifications part time/evening class? I think the AAT certificate exempted you from some of the ACCA exams, and would give you a foot in the door for 'generalist' book keeping jobs. The job centre put me through my AAT as I didn't find a job when I graduated (but that was 15 years ago, and they're probably less generous)0 -
Most companies have finance departments and need people with those types of qualifications - not just accountancy firms. Try Law firms for example0

Agree with purple.
Most companies have their own Accounts departments so apply to just about every company you can think of that you like the look of. The only thing is that you will have to start off as something like an Accounts Assistant as even though you have the degree it will be the accounting qualifications they are looking for.
For example, I work in manufacturing. Whilst we use the services of KPMG for many things we have our own financial and management accounts departments.0 -
Yep - I usually work in IT but I don't do it for IT companies - I work for other businesses in their internal IT departments. And as you support the company instead of a range of clients it can be much more rewarding0

I did outline a few of the modules that most related to accountancy in my CV! To be honest I wouldn't want to go through AAT when I could go straight to ACCA which I'm planning to do if I can't get a job by the end of the month0 -

I'm already applying to any firm with a finance department I come across but no luck0
