bulk buying for a discount?

Just been wondering.
Apart from the usual regular shopping, if you've got the space anyone tried bulk buying (for a discount) of "essential" non perishable items .
Eg wholesale type supplies of say toilet rolls, tinned stuff that you know you will always use?
Do the big stores give any discounts for bulk or do you know of reliable suppliers who do (and hopefully deliver) say 48 tins (or more) of branded baked beans etc

No one? C'mon moneysavers, has no one got any experience/opinions on this?
  • I think you are looking for places like Makro and Costco. They are wholesalers, but not always cheaper even in bulk.

You get multipacks in supermarkets, but I very much doubt they would give you any discount on large amounts even if you asked, they are too arrogant to think they need customers. If anyone knows better please feel free to correct me.

Might also be worth you looking at http://www.approvedfood.co.uk/ if you haven't already.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • I just wait until the usual supermarkets have deals on non-perishables, and buy in bulk. (Washing up liquid, bogroll, coke)

I'm surprised there isn't much on this issue.
Costco etc are only in certain areas and won't deliver and Approved Foods only have a very small selection. The supermarkets aren't interested in real bulk discounts.
    A pity.

If you shop at Farmfoods or Tesco, you can use the Farmfood vouchers in both. £2.50 off £25 spend, £5.00 off £50 spend. You can combine the vouchers if you buy in bulk. They also accept out of date vouchers in Farmfoods, not sure about Tesco.
  • In my store they don't really like bulk buying customers because some are businesses buying to sell one which is plain cheeky as some supermarkets have offers that are cheaper than wholesalers.

Also it upsets normal customers coming in to buy those items as well.

When I worked on Alcohol, we had to keep telling takeaway businesses to stop asking for 12 boxes of cobra on offer, because they were doing it everyday and trying to get as much as cheaply as they can. Then we get 20 customers moaning that we haven't got any.
They even ordered 10 boxes once, we got them in and it went off the offer and they refused to collect. We were stuck with the 10 boxes for weeks! Also the system overorders when there is a demand sometimes causing more to come in!!!

Not bulk buy as such, but as others have indicated, I'll stock up on the BOGOF's on the more expensive items by item, such as: Fairy/washing powders/cleaning products/nappies etc
