Tax on Employees Health Insurance

Options
If I get taxed on health insurance provided by my employer, yet I don't make any claims (i.e. benefit from the service) should I be able to reclaim that tax paid? Both legally as it stands today, and morally?

i.e. Should I pay tax on a benefit which.... is not a benefit.

    No and no.

It is a benefit in that it gives you peace of mind should you need it. If you don't want to pay tax on it don't take the benefit and just use the NHS.

I'm not here to answer moral questions, but the premiums have been paid and you are liable to tax on them. Like all insurance, they are a 'just in case'.

Of course it's a benefit. I haven't had a car insurance claim for 30 odd years but if someone was paying for my insurance, it certainly would be a benefit.

Yes you should pay the tax.
You won't be moaning about it if you have a problem and need to see a specialist! No NHS waiting list for you!
