Able & Cole Special Offer

I know a few people on here use the Able & Cole veg box delivery thing so thought I would mention this in case it helps anyone.

If you go to their website they have a special offer on where you buy a veg/fruit/both box each week worth over £15 for 4 consecutive weeks and on the 5th week they will credit you with £50 to spend with them.

If you dont like something you can let them know and they will replace it with something else.

I have never ordered from them before but my mum does and she said they are very good so I hope this is helpful to someone.

(Also means staying out of Mr T/S/A lol).

I gave up on Able and Cole because they had no quality control on their veg. The carrots were often chopped up into pieces, salad leaves were brown and once the kale had a bug infestation. I know it's organic, but they seem to just shove it in the box without looking to see if it's edible. They were always apologetic when I told them and gave me money off, but I found it too much hassle in the end. I switched to Riverford who had more presentable items. Mind you I can't afford organic now...
  • Oh no - my mum has never had any problems. I feel bad for posting this now!

I used to use Riverford but found their food awful lol.

  • I use the 10% codes for a big meat/ fish shop every other month or so :)

I haven't used their veg service as I use one a bit more locally sourced than theirs

I thought this £50 offer was a really good. However, I was really disappointed with the first boxes I received but thought I would try a second box just in case I was unlucky, but Im not even going to bother continuing to the end of the offer, its just not the quality I expected.

    Appled bruised, brown and damaged
    Plums way over ripe
    bananas bruised
    carrots broken
    potatoes not that great
    lettuce wilted

greens were ok but not anything special

They have just sent me the offer in the post, was seriously considering it, but now I'm not so sure - I'd thought it would only be worth it if you ate absolutely everything they sent, but if it isn't good quality what is the point of the expense.
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!

I've been using them for several months and the quality has almost always been excellent. Perhaps there are regional variations? I'm in West Yorkshire. I also buy bread from them (a sliced white loaf that is heavenly) and fish (love their filleted mackerel and sardines, and they also have good quality smoked haddock). At the moment, I get both a fruit box and a veg box. The fruit is more variable, but if you're flexible - ie, sometimes cook it rather than eat it raw - it lasts just fine (I do have an orange glut, but will be doing some juicing to deal with it). Whether it is worth it might depend on whether you have to do a once-a-week shop either at the supermarket or a greengrocer, or whether you have the time to buy fruit and veg as you go. If it's the latter, I'd have thought that was preferable. But I'd rather have Abel & Cole than our local supermarket or greengrocer, the produce is better.

I've been an A&C customer for a year or so and have always found their stuff very good - strangely, given some of the problems people on this thread have had, I swapped from Riverford because I found their stuff was terrible quality (bruised nectarines, rotten lettuce and a furry aubergine - all in one box!), and their customer service was totally indifferent.

I don't now have a greengrocer's near me and the fruit in my local Asda is generally inedible so A&C seem a good compromise, and I'd recommend them to anyone!
Back after a very long break!

same here used Riverford first but with A and C at least if i didnt like somthing i could get it subsituted

i too got the offer -- but its the fact u have to have a box weekly puts me off cos i only ever have a box fortnightly due to the fact theres so much shame they couldnt do that --
  • I have clarifed the terms and conditions with them and the box can be one of the smaller ones priced below £15 as long as total order is over £15 and the box is set to weekly delivery. The £15 cant include the 99p del charge. you can even change the box each week as long as set to weekly del. after 4 wks can cancel wkly delivery and still get the £50 back.

the top up bits can be set to one off order and different things ordered each week.

I have used them all of last winter dont order so much in summer as own fruit and veg but have signed up to this deal as came through post few days ago.
