I canceled David Lloyds, in Janaury, my account was suspended till Spetember. I was told I am no longer member hence I cancelled my direct debit. I even was told I did not need to send a letter, it all done and dusted. The membership would be cancelled.
Today I got a letter stating I am in arrearseven though I am not a member.
I contacted them immediately, they said even my membership is cancelled somehow I still got to pay for it. Someone in membership will contact me later to discuss the issue.
What can I do?
It is causes me anxiety and stress which I can not deal with. Any advice please?

Did you give notice of cancellation in accordance with your contract? Do you have notes of who you spoke to and when in terms of the cancellation?MFIT No. 810

I had the same problem with Virgin, I just told them what had happened and it had been a clerical error on their part.
Do you have a swipe card? They can look on that to see when you last used the gym, how did you cancel your contract was it in writing? Did you just 'freeze' your account or were you within your terms to cancel the contract?
I wrote to Virgin explaining that I had not used the facilities since xxx, and that my financial situation had changed and that didn't allow me to continue with my contract. I terminated it before the 12 months was up and other than the error had no problems.Debt Free Target: December 2011
:T I did it in November 2011!! :T0 -
she has contacted me, she was checking my membership, she said it was cancelled, she will try and sort it out for me and let me know on Thursday. I even broke down on the phone. Hopefully it goes well and I dont have to pay...0

I did hand my cancellation in writing with proof that I was made redundant, however I had to let them know of my situation, I did. They said the membership was cancelled etc...the membership people rang they said they will sort it out... I broke down on the phone, I can not afford it.0 -
So I will have to wait and see...I let you know of what happens on Thursday0

Relax, you won't have to pay.
David Lloyds is infamous for this. I had a friend who had to go through the same thing.
I had gym membership with Nuffield and I cancelled in branch, so I could get something in writing.0 -
1. When did you join David Lloyds?
2. When did you become redundant?
3. When did you contact David Lloyds to inform them of this?
4. Did you inform them by phone or letter?
5. Did you get a letter from them stating that your membership was suspended for a certain time?
6. Did they specify in the letter what would happen to your account when the temporary suspension was over?
As far as I am aware, the thing with DL's is you should not have cancelled the DD. They do this at their end. You also have to give them 3 months warning before cancellling your contract.0 -

I became redundant September last year. I gave a letter in a face to face meeting with a p45 as evidence in January.
I informed through letter in face-to-face meet up and contacted them through phone about this redundancy and that I can no longer a membership.
I did not get a letter from them stating the suspension, but it was suspended as they did not take any money from the account. I did make sure on the several times that it was suspended. Originally it was for three months but when I contacted anther person of the membership team; she said to me, that it was suspended till September, this year then it will be canceled.
They sent a letter in the last week August which I ignored persuading me to come back. I threw it away, obviously it was canceled and I had no intention to return.
I contacted them a few days ago when I noticed that the direct debit was still active. No money was collected from David Lloyds for this month. I contacted them to make them aware, she said I could go ahead and cancel the direct debit. So I did.
Today I got a letter saying I am in arrears as I have not paid for this month.
I did not need to pay for it this month, as I understood it to be canceled. I contacted them today stating so;
(I spoke to the receptionist, I assume, who said that there was a note on the system to make them aware of what was going on in regard to the job hunt. I needed to have a letter 3 months ago stating the cancellation. I did go 3 months ago with a letter, which they said I did not need as it has already been sorted; the membership would be canceled. I need not worry.)
I contacted the membership team today;they said they will sort it out and inform me on Thursday. I contacted the same woman from the membership, I contacted earlier today, which I broke down in tears and she said I don't need to pay and she will try and sort it out.
I am still worried about the whole thing. When I contacted David Lloyds, the receptionist stated "hopefully I would not need to pay" but was unsure and even went onto say I might have to pay in the end, I insisted to be put through the membership team lady, which she stated she will sort it out and I don't need to pay.
Hopefully I don't need to pay, and it is canceled and I have nothing to do with David Lloyds. Even at this moment, I deeply worried.
sorry for the errors, I was rushing when typing this...0 -
Does anyone has an idea what will happen tomorrow? Will it turn out to be the result I want? I really want this to end, and want to know where I stand. What is likely to happen?
Please reply. I am really worried and not had a good nights sleep.0
