Between myself and my husband we have debts of nearly £26k. He is self employed, im a student we have 4 kids and do not own our own home. He has a van for work and i have a car for uni (which we both NEED) We are struggling each month to pay everything, have defaulted a few times on various debts and don't have enough money for food. What can we do? Our 'debt' monthly outgoings are £604.94 and thats before any household bills (rent, CT etc) and food. What can we do?

You need to fill in an SOA, as here:
http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html
check that you are getting all the benefits your should on www.entitledto.com
Have you got single person's CT allowance organised?
Have you spoken to college/university to see if there is any extra help?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Don't start uni for another 3 weeks and as far as iam aware (correct if im wrong) I can't get the reduced rate CT until i actually start.0 -
Here's a link for additional funding/support you may be entitled to once you start uni:

Otherwise, pop up your SoA for advice - one thing I did think, was if you can only get to uni by car, once you start it may be worth seeing if any of your classmates are on route so you could either carshare if you both drive, or you could give them a lift & they could contribute a bit towards the petrol.Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06
