Old Flour...

...as in oops should have checked that. I have a 1kg packet of Hovis Malted Brown Bread flour the date on it is Dec 2006, but does not indicate if it is a use by or best before.

I have emptied it out into a mixing bowl and it looks fine, no nasty creepy crawlies or mould and smells fine too. I realise it may have lost some of its oomph (haven't we all), but do you think it will be okay to use.
Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw

apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.

The date on flour is normally a best before date, I have used flour a few years out of date, you should be fine.

I tend to ignore BBD really, I'm using a tin of mustard that's about 7 years out of date, but that's still fine.

I would use it - in fact i have plenty of times in the past when i`ve found flour lurking at the back of the cupboard.
Sometimes the results arn`t quite as good but hardly noticeable.

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p
  • I don't think it will harm you but you may not get the best results from it.

Best thing to do is try it and see.
