Any thetrainline.com/qjump.co.uk codes?

Hi there,

I regularly travel by train and have made it my New Year's resolution to get to work for less. I'm going to start buying my train tickets in advance through thetrainline.com via greasypalm to get some cashback but wondered if anyone had any promotional codes for them? Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks

I doubt there's enough margin on train tickets for promotion codes.

Thetrainline.com has certainly been loss-making since it was set up - I should know - I have shares in Stagecoach (which used to part-own it).

They managed to run a 50% off promotion just before christmas (through ScotRail I think) - so we have to live in hope! At 50% off tickets START to resemble what I'd consider to be reasonable... ;D

Have you got or thought of getting family rail card. I think it costs about £20 per year, but you do get reductions off your tickets. Around 30% off, not sure of exact details, but I was advised to get one over the weekend, when I made a trip from Manchester to London. But since I don't trave often it wasn't worth it.

Yes I have a young persons card as I travel off peak a lot as my job is shift work. This has probably saved me hundreds over the last 18 months, but I still think trains are a rip off. The cheapest way to get to London on a peak time train from where I am has just gone up to £14.80 for me (and that's using the YP card). Otherwise you'd be looking at nearly £20. Just to spend 40mins on a packed train! I look at how many commuters there are each day and think they the train companies must be making a packet!

Rant over. If anyone is interested, I found a cashback site called quickquid.com that offers 1% cashback on thetrainline. I'm going to pre book all my tickets through them now - it has to add up to something over a year!

Thanks for all your replies - much appreciated! Don't think I'll be going with the coach idea though - the thought of adding any more time onto my commute doesn't bear thinking about! I think I've worked out a plan to save some money on the trains though (above board and legal before anyone thinks I'm going to fare dodge!), but I have to wait and see if it works this week. I'll report back with the results, but for anyone travelling in and out of London regularly you may be interested!
  • Yes!! Please do...as long as it's legit.

It's not much of an offer, but this is the cheapest fare i've seen since the 50% off offer.

But the thing is you've got to travel through midland mainlines and I believe it ends on 31st Jan.

Was posted on the Grab It While You Can boards.

if i had known then what i know now
