most the time i sympathise with the many unfortunate people that have fallen into debt....business gone wrong, lost jobs, sickness ect but wow...not you.
one person to look after, good job, good income and luckily parents have paid off debt...luckily parents have sent me £20K plus to pay more debts
Your parents probably sweated blood to build that nest egg and you blow it.
good luck but cannot read this sad diary any more.
all the best to your parents for they will need it.0 -

I don't think the OP was looking for your sympathy. A great many peoples parents pay similar amounts out for their children's university, house deposit or wedding, would you have such vitriol in store for them for taking their parents dosh?Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000

Hey Emmington.
So very well done on tackling your loans and credit cards. I bet it feels great to be on the home straight!
I hope SouthportGuy's post doesn't de-motivate you in any way. I understand where he is coming from but I'm sure you're already aware of just how fantastically generous your parents have been.
I think we all sometimes wish we could be helped out like that!
What is your situation with paying your parents back? Are you committed to paying it back? Maybe a gesture payment to them per month could be factored into your SOA when your car loan has gone, say £100? It won't make too much impact on your finances month to month, it might put their mind at rest as it's kind of proof you have tackled all your debt and are able to start to re-pay the gesture and that they have truly helped you out.
'cause that's all that parents want really isn't it, acknowledgement that the lecture they gave you before helping you out went in and stuck
Maybe you can also use it to help keep you on track with your good budget. If you ever finding yourself thinking that you could do with the cash you are paying to your parents it might be a trigger to re-evaluate your SOA again!
I look forward to the time when I am on my last debt as you are!
Best of luck! Keep up with the updates!0 -

sorry to upset, and really did not mean to, but i do find it hard to sympathise with those that have been totally reckless
and this is a great example of such behaviour
would i pay my kids debts off if they where so keen on bling...new clothes, car, 3 phones.........sorry no i would not
would i pay for education, help with deposits, child minding fees...very much so.
good luck with the debt repayment.
But the bank of mum and dad is one that is an unfair one to use.
Moving back home and paying on rent at all and then not borrowing but taking money to pay silly debts a 10 yr old would be ashamed of then i do find this case one that i cannot sympathise with.
SO so many of other posters who through no fault of their own are in the mire and one can sympathise with....
i think you will find a good number of readers who will understand what i am saying... maybe not agree with it in its entirety but will understand what i am saying and the point i am making.
thanks for reading.

Ok, you wouldn’t. That’s fine, not sure why you want to berate the OP about it.Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000

Well done emmi - this helps me as I had the light bulb moment in July and it seems like I will never pay it off but you give me hope!0

I'm with you on this Emmi,
You just can't judge people's situations. If I am honest, I would accept money from my parents if they had it and I would (like you) pay it back but not at the extortionate rates I currently pay to debtors. When APR is high you have no chance of paying it back. I'm sure your parents were happy to help their daughter.
I had relationship break downs and I spent money to ease the pain. Although thankfully I never had such a tough time as you.
And I should point out - although I do accept my debt and it was me who spent it - lenders have been incredibly irresponsible. I too had credit thrown at me and I too was young and niave and poorly educated at what these credit cards actually cost.
Well done on leaving an abusive realationship, many don't until it is too late. Well done on having a good relationship with your parents and well done on tackling your debt!!!!0
