Getting married without the fuss?

Hi All,
Me and OH have decided that it is really time to tie the knot but I really don't want a big wedding/fuss etc just us and the kids
Would love to hear any ideas on where to go and how to do it. Saw some great Lapland weddings and beach weddings but really want to keep the cost as low as possible (that way I can spend more on shoes!!!!!)
I know we could just go to the registry office but I wanted to make it a little more special if we could but am stumped for ideas
Thanks all,
Naomi

Get married in Scotland. You can get married anywhere, on a beach, in a castle, at a lochs edge etc, as its the person performing the wedding that has to be licenced not the location.2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0

Oh, and just another thought with regards to doing it cheaply..... I have just been given a brand new wedding dress (with tags!), shoes, jewellery and a hair facinator via Freecycle. Its worth a shot!
Also got my daughter bridesmaid dress, brand new, from a car boot sale for £4.2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -
We are going up to Scotland for our wedding and it is working out so much cheaper. Close family our coming and everything is so well priced! Photographer £200, Horse and Carriage £160 etc. We went up there and it is so beautiful and felt so much better than finding some venue here in Essex that would cost us a bomb.
Let us know what you decide!!0 -
Me and my other half were the same, we didnt want the big fuss. Hes been married before and done the whole church white wedding thing and I am not at all religious so didnt want a church wedding.
We got married this time last year in Ayia Napa in Cyprus and it was fab!
It was at the Grecian Sands Hotel which has a deck overlooking the sea for weddings which looks amazing in your pics.
We just told freinds and family this is what we are doing you are welcome to come but we cant afford to pay for anyone. Surprisingly about 12 people came out with us and we had a great time.
If you want anymore details let me know :0)Wins: Holiday to Thailand May 2014

We got married in April at the Mill Forge Gretna Green, and it was fabulous. Just us and our daughter. Absolutely BRILLIANT day. We travelled there and back same day. Used local photographer for £140, and the shots are out of this world. We're so pleased we did it that way. We paid for registrar (£207), venue (£230), make-up/hair (£85), photographer (£140) and everything came to less than £700!! If you want any details let me know.
Dresses we got from eBay (and sold afterwards for a profit coz we used nicer photos!). Grooms suit was bought from M&S using Pigsback vouchers. Rings from Goldsmiths using Tesco vouchers. And the money that my Dad gave us to get married we paid off the mortgage (shortening it by 6 years), And my Dad is thrilled that's what we did!0
