Hi, I know there is a dentist on here, would appriciate what you think, thom I know you cant say whats what really.
Basically had big rear molar taken out last week,
it wasd a nasty extraction, tooth broke up, very long root,
lots of tugging, thought dentist was going to put his foot on chair for leveridge!!
Anyway ive had the most amasing pain in my jaw, ear, cheekbone and temple since,
I cant sleep properly, off my food, taking painkillers 24/7 and they seem to not be working.
Went back to dentist today, he said its not a dry socket,
I had a coarse of antibiotics before extraction cus i had infection in it,
( he couldnt take it out first time cus even after 2 injections it was agony) So wouldnt give me anymore antibios.
Told me if its still huring in 2 days go to doctor.
He said everyhting looks fine, doesnt understand?
He says he thinks im still in pain cus it was a big tooth,
and cus the nerves are close to ear ect...
Any advice, im going mad, cant sleep, ODing on painkillers
Doing my head in!!
Thanks

He really shouldn't be passing the buck on to the doctor.
Tooth sockets can hurt for a while after tooth extraction. There'll be a lot of bruising to the area and if the tooth was in quite a state before it was removed, that isn't going to help either.
Should be manageable with pain killers, although everybody is different.
I can only take his word for it that everything looks alright around there, so it should calm down in the end. Antibiotics wouldn't be effective even if it was an infected socket but dressing it might.
DON'T be tempted to hold anything warm against it - that will only make things worse.
Get back to see your dentist if it gets worseHow to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Wow snap! Well mine was 6 days ago but oh my word it hurt so much. He injected twice but it wouldn't go numb so he injected further up - almost the roof of my mouth. He said it might sting a bit, I could have punched him.
It wouldn't come out, he had to drill it in half. 45 minutes later it was out. I have been taking arnica and loads of painkillers, it is a lot better but still not 100%. I guess just stick with the painkillers and maybe try arnica.
ETA - Holding ice packs on that side of my face helped me get to sleep on the few nights when it was really bad.Slimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j0 -
I had a tooth out recently, the pain was not too bad (like mild toothache), but lasted about a fortnight. I assumed it was just down to the bruising and the wound healing up. I took paracetomol and ibruprofen when necessary. It's fine now.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
