Just curious to know this, our guaranteed witness is taking our photos anyway but enquired into getting a photographer to take some pics at the registry office ages ago. I advertised for a student as was hoping to help them build up a portfolio but ended up turning out far cheaper to get a professional!
I contacted 2 people who are just starting out as a hobby, and they were demanding payment for lost wages for taking the entire day off work (for about one hour of their time in total)) plus petrol costs and any other expenses. I contacted one of them last night in my search for a witness and she emailed back earlier to say it would be a minimum charge of £50 just to be a stand in witness. I understand that they will lose wages with it being a weekday but I really cant believe the cheek, if we were going to fork out the money, it would be better to have a professional. It isnt always mse to go for a student or amatuer.
A professional who is building up his portfolio has no charge for shooting fees, you only pay for photos. A few other professionals were going to charge about £80/100 and that included copyright free cd or a full album.
Ps, am now sorted with a witness, can concentrate on being a bridezilla now!

definitely not fair! If someone wants to build up a portfolio for a new career, then surely they should be doing that in their own time - i.e. book holiday from work.
petrol -fair
