World Cup 2010 (for wedding dates)

Just a heads up for those, like me, planning summer 2010 weddings.
World Cup starts on Friday 11th June, and the Final is on Sunday 11th July.
Our venue is doing a discount between these dates.
We're going for Friday 11th June, as there are only two matches, both Group A, both opening group-stage games so non-critical. So long as England aren't in Group A we shouldn't have guests sneaking off to the TV in the Clubhouse (we are in a 14th Century barn on a golf course). :rolleyes:
We wanted to do Friday July 9th to take advantage of the discount, since it's a rest day with no matches, but someone else had already thought of that d'oh.
If you are planning and bothered about it, the fixture schedule can be downloaded here, so you can check if there will be any important matches on: http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/index.html

pmsl im glad we wasnt the only people who thought about football when booking our wedding...
but like oh said if football is more importent then our wedding then there not real friends/family
so we've booked the 2rd of july 20100 -
We have our English reception on 12th June and iv made sure our venue has got a big screen just in case England are playing, I dread people not turning up until the game finishes, at least this way we can have it on and still have the music playing.0

When friends of ours got married, in Wales, wales were playing an international rugby match, they actually set up a big screen for everyone to watch it, between the meal and evening 'do'!! Gave us girls a chance for a bloody good gossip
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

FYI groups should be drawn on 4th december this year i'll be watching not matter what time its on!
17th jun 100% chance of a group a match 50% chance of group b if england are drawn in those groups
however i'm trying and failing to keep numbers down anyway so am not bothered if people don't turn up for the day
You have to remember that if you were going for a weekday wedding and it falls in the day then people would have been at work anyway and likely to miss the match, there are unlikely to be people that would take the day off for your wedding, and then decide they aren't coming cos the footballs on....Had a thrifty wedding 17-06-10
expecting triplets in Jul/ Aug 2012 :eek::eek::eek::grinheart:grinheart:grinheart0 -
Me and H2B both met at football so its a huge football themed wedding. Firstly I had to wait until this years football fixtures were announced so that we could book our date, this is because we wanted out reception on a match day at our football club. So the date is 1st May 2010, last home game of the season. Having to get married at 10.30 am :eek: so we can get everything (meal ect ect) done for 3pm kick off.
Honeymoon is 3 weeks in South Africa for the World Cup :beer:0
