Soooo upset and angry with myself

mHiya, I have been around these boards for quite awhile. I do well for a while then go back to old ways. WHY WHY WHY do i do this when i know how stresfull it and upsetting it is. I have some sort of self destruct button that i just cant resist pressing :eek::eek:?????. I am not in very much debt but my organization skils are S**t. I realize that a lot of people on here are in a lot worse situation than me, and may think, get a grip girl you call that debt ? I owe about 2500. Both myself and my husband work, its my total lack of organization that has got me in this state. I know what i must do, i just dont do it ??? I do not know why? DH does not get paid until the 15th of sep and I have £5 in my purse. Just wanted to get this off my chest. I must wipe the tears and stop feeling sorry and get sorted.

  • Hi BlueJeans :hello:. Firstly whether it's 2 pounds, 2500 pounds or 25,000 pounds it's irrelevant - it's causing you issues and you want to sort it and it's causing you problems - also best to sort it at 2500 pounds then let it get more out of control - you know?
Also I think it's kinda learning to walk - you don't just try and fall over and give up (well none of us would be able to walk if that was the case would we?) - you scrape your knee - get upset, pick yourself up, dust yourself down and try again - right? It's like playing the piano - it take's practice - whatever age you start learning it's still gonna take practice - some people get to learn earlier in life for whatever reason but some weren't lucky enough to have parents or school to teach them so come to it later but we'll all get there in the end.
You've done it now - is there anything you can take back to the shops etc to make it a bit better? Have a cup of tea (and a biscuit) and then get back to the plan.

  • Ok, ive had a think. I have a pandora bracelet (silver) with about 8 charms on it. One gold wedding ring ( wedding ring not worn, too tight). So I am off to town to see what I can get for them. Anything is better than nothing. Loan only not to sell. That should get me a little further through the week.

  • Have you got any Tesco, Nectar or Boots advantage points you could use to help eke things out?

You need to tackle 2 issues - first the immediate problem of having no cash. Think about what you need to spend over the next 8days. Then work out which items are absolutley vital and which you can manage without. Look through your cupboards to see if you can make do without purchasing any food - creative basic cooking is a must in this situation.

Then see if there are ways you can increase the money you have. Do you have clothes or similar with tags attached that you could return? Do you have Loyalty points stored up? Do you have vouchers off food shopping.

Could you consider selling something on gumtree or having a car boot sale?

Any odd jobs you could do for friends/neighbours/family? Its not fun but offer to babysit anyone with kids or garden for elderly neighbours.

Check around the house for loose spare change, old wallets, jeans pockets, in the car etc

Do you have family nearby who could lend you a small amount or who you could visit and have a meal with this week. ( I know some people feel uncomfortable doing this but i had a friend who called in sick at work for a week cos she couldn't afford the petrol to get there - I was really mad she hadn't told me as I'd have been willing and happy to help tide her over)

Once you have got through this week you need to work out a realistic budget and stick to it. If your tempted to overspend remember how you felt this week and remind yourself you don't want to go back to this feeling again.

    Good luck

  • bluejeans - Hi :j

My first impression when reading your post is this can be easily sorted. You are recognising the problem, trying to deal with it and so therefore you are back in control. Thats worth its weight in gold !

Previous poster is right about this being 2 fold. First is getting you through to payday. Second is correcting the things that go wrong each month.

What is your weakness? Not budgeting for bills? Not budgeting enough? Overspending on groceries? Treats for the kids? shiny gorgeous things when shopping that make you feel better?

Do you have enough money coming in in the first place? Have you completed a SOA ? Have you made cutbacks?

Have you put your debts into the snowball calculator? Do you know realistically how long it should take you to pay the debt off?

    Sorry for all the questions

  • Tell us a bit more blue jeans, maybe we can help you with some strategies to improve your organisation with money and help you get through the next week.
  • Before you get a loan try and think of other ways to make this money? Else you're just going to add to the debt you've already got!!!

Is there anything you can ebay? What do you actually need to spend money on these next days? I have survived a week on £5 before - just work out what you really NEED to spend on until you get paid - having a bit of time with such a small budget can really help break the spending cycle when you know it's possible - gets you in a better frame of mind!

  • Elizabeth is right, I bet you can shop from your cupboards, walk rather than driving and generally scrape by until payday.

Whatever you do don't be tempted by a payday loan company they are extortionate.

Sit down and work out what you need to spend before payday, and post it here, we might be able to help with reducing it or suggesting ways to raise funds.

For just buying yourself a bit more time do you have any room on a credit card? We can help you with cutting back for next month so you can pay it off. Posting a SoA and keeping a spending diary would really help you. That takeaway looks less attractive if you have to confess to your spending diary! :-)
