When I had an offset mortgage I used to concentrate on the amount of interest paid compared to the alternatives even though it was a repayment mortgage. I got a good initial rate that too soon went pants (3 months). After that interest rates went up a quarter of a point every month. My savings were from stoozed money so I was in a weak position to have an offset. Going through all those credit cards without a blemish did establish a good credit record from a non-existant one.
Try the amortization schedule calculator in the package I mentioned. The overpayment feature is flexible and very useful.
