Can I confirm the venue yet?

We provisionally booked our venue at the weekend. I needed to see if a Registrar was available (civil ceremony and reception all at one venue).
I phoned the council, and they have held our date/time for one month, during which we have to register (go in and meet the council with all our docs).
Is this ever a problem? Now we have the registrar pencilled in, does the process of registering the marriage ever go wrong?
The venue only holds provisional bookings for 14 days and I want to go ahead and confirm it, but at that point there's a £750 deposit and I'm scared something will go wrong and there'll be no-one to marry us. Am I being daft?

I'm in the same boat as you, but there's nothing to worry about.
OH is going to our venue today with the deposit but we can't book the registrar properly until the 2nd October. We're only pencilled in with them upto now.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Thanks! Puts my mind at rest a bit.

11th June 2010 it is then, but I'm scared of telling people the date for fear of something going wrong with the venue, accommodation or registrar!!0 -
Have you booked your appointment for the registrar yet? If not, I'd book it asap xTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

Almost - mostly stressed at the mo worried something will go wrong with the date.
We only got engaged a week ago (Sun 30th Aug)!! But we wanted a Friday or Saturday in May-July next year so have gone nuts finding a venue etc. Once that's a confirmed booking and the registrar is fully confirmed in a few weeks, I'll relax and enjoy being engaged for a few months.
Though I am chuffed given all the naysayers who said we couldn't organise a wedding now for next summer.

Awww congratulations!
Wow, you've been quick with all that planning and only engaged for a week, well done! :T
I'm sure everything will be fine with you venue and registrar, but it must be a nice feeling to know both are booked properly, then the fun planning can begin!

Don't worry, you'll have no problem organising it in 9 months, especially as you've already found your venue, you hear stories about everything being booked up years in advance, but this hasn't been our experience. None of the venues we looked at were booked & we've had no probs booking a photographer etc, enjoy your planning."Normal is not something to aspire to - it is something to get away from" - Jodie Foster0
