Can anyone advise wether this is a straight forward procedure. I have naturally very dark brown hair. I have been having highlights for 12 years so its been getting blonder and blonder, and my mop has got way too light and the re-growth is drepressing!!!lol (the last time I had highlights they had to be done twice because it went wrong, in a ginger sort of way). I have curly hair and I hope it will still have curl when/if I can get it done darker.

I used to bleach my hair blonde, when I decided to go dark again I had a hairdresser do it so I didn't make any mistakes, and she dyed it red first, and then brown on top. She said if you just go dark on top of the blonde there's a risk of your hair going green or something lol.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

I sympathise - I have just had to do this. I was getting much too blonde so I last time I had some darker colours blended through to tone down the blonde rather than a complete recolour. It has worked extremely well and I have no obvious regrowth.0 -
I agree with Amanita. Have some dark colours taken through first till you get used to it then go the whole hog if you like it. I had highlights once (by my Headmasters hairdresser that I had for years) it went wrong, so she put me back to my natural colour. I looked like Cruella Deville for months0

Be careful. My natural colour is blonde and I went to very dark brown by myself. I had to get my hairdresser to dye it back to its natural colour. It took 5 hours in total.4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0

Bleached hair is very, very porous so it will take the colour like a magnet, so I'd be tempted to not go too dark immediately.
You need to do a strand-test and time it very carefully and try to avoid a colour with too much red in it.
I'd say that it's not something for the faint-hearted to undertake on their own and I think the idea of toning the blonde down with some darker streaks through it is a fab idea and you won't have a shock with the radical change.0 -
I went from 5+ years of higlights back to my natural light brown at my hairdressers.... she used a semi-permanent gloss which had a distinctly reddish tinge to it, due to the porous nature of my hair.
My hair is now a shiny rich chestnut brown - using semi-permanent glosses to avoid too much regrowth2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
