    most optical mice will run on your leg or desk without a pad,

    But A WARNING if you find a freebee mat check it out with google or here first there is a well known spam scam, they offer mugs, mats and USB sticks, noone gets anything but SPAM

  • There does not seem to be as many out there as there used to be. but if you go to an exhibition or show chances are someone will be giving them away. I last stocked up at Farnborough Air Show, which is coming around again next year. My current one explaims how a Rolls-Royce jet engine works!

    Also, a few business printers send them out as samples - can you suddenly develop a company name and send off for them that way? As said before, always check on Google first as they are rather spammy sometimes.
