I did when I changed providers and my final reading had been guessed....hugely in their favour strangely......0

Strangley enouugh the gas company phoned me a few weeks ago and told me to read the meter because it hadnt been read for years and I discovered that they owed me £480 which has now been credited to my bank account. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Have to say I always read the meter quarterly - I never accept their "estimated" figures. Even if I am over what they estimate at least I won't get stung with a bill later on down the line.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

With it being so bloomin hot outside it's worth mentioning that in the summer months it's best to slightly overpay ones utilities and combined with the fact you don't use them as much in the summer means that come wintertime you're already ahead of yourself and it is less burden around the festive season.
If people do read their meter and find their usage estimates ahead of their actual usage (within reason) it's probably best left like that. OK you won't earn interest on the money with it in their account, but at the sake of a few pence in interest you can have a much easier yule.0 -
I'll have a much easier yule by getting the £480 back Amos. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Oh of course you should get that back but if you end up paying a tenner a month more than you're using, I'd forget about it and enjoy easier bills in the winter0

Yes youre definitely right. Thats why i hadnt bothered withthe meter for years, didnt realise we were overpaying by that much though. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

I don't use DD for my bills so pay when they come in.
But I always read all my meters once a month so I always have a very good idea of what my bills are going to be.
And all my meters means water/gas/electric. Something that I never use to do but since moving last year it is something that is now done and put on a spreadsheet. Which my husband keeps and it works out how the bills will be.

Yes Amos, we are £32 in credit but we are going to keep up the payments of £30 a month which will help towards the costs later in the year when I have the heating on permanantly !!Just owe Dad £2500 for a new car
