My daughter has bought the school blazer (M&S one) for dgd1 (age11) and I've bought the badge - very good so far!
Have discovered that the pocket on the blazer is 'tiny' - to say the least! Checked out the school blazers in Asda and they're exactly the same.
The badge is bigger than the blazer pockets
.
Has anybody any clues what I can do please?
1. There is barely any space around the badge to trim it to size.
2. If I do trim it to size, will the fabric start to fray leaving me with 'shreds of threads' to have to try to stitch down.
3. I am soooooo tempted to stitch the darn badge completely over the pocket - but that would completely enclose the pocket and I think it would look stupid.
I DO have good sewing skills but this one has got me stumped. It's 20+ years since I did one of these things - and have NEVER had any problems before. I really thought that by now, SOMEBODY would have come up with a lighter weight school badge complete with wonderweb backing that could be 'pressed' onto the breast pocket!
Is there anybody reading at the moment who can up with a good idea p-l-e-a-s-e?

How about attaching the badge to iron on vilene [you can buy it in black try Abakhan]. This should stop any fraying.

Thank you nanamags - I forgot I've got some vilene wtg :T:A:j!0

are you able to attach a new pocket to the blazer that is a suitable size for the badge?0

I would use Vilene, I wouldn't cut the badge as some are oversown to prevent fraying. Have a sneaky peak at school what others have done.
I would just line it up with the open edge of the pocket and just cover the pocket as you will still be able to use the pocket.
A lot of blazers now have the badge already embriodered on the pocket, now thats a thought, remove the existing pocket and make a new one with the badge.0 -

That is what I finally did! My vilene had lost its 'stickiness' when I tried to press it.
I've stitched the badge in place using black thread (doubled) with small running stitches. It's level with the top of the pocket and then the sides/bottom of the badge are stitched to the fabric instead of the pocket - but was very careful NOT to catch the lining . So far dgd is happy with the result, phew!
You can buy the blazers for around £10 (M&S/Asda etc) and badges are £5 (I got the last loose badge in the shop) - but a blazer with the badge already attached is £25 from the School Uniform Suppliers:eek: !!! I feel really sorry for any mothers who 'can't thread a needle'.
Many thanks for your replies :T.0
