completing sa myself without accountant

Options
Hi,
I'm doing this year's SA myself without the aid of an accountant as I need to do it ASAP for tax repayment, and don't have the cash to pay one as usual to help with the figures and filing.

My two main areas of concern are that in the accounts previously, the accountant simply asked for figures and made up the accounts (not as in fabricated!), and so I'm unsure of how to calculate a few figures. One is use of home as an office, then general administrative expenses and the vehicle expenses - think I've figured out the depreciation on the car, and that 50% useage figure, but how much of the tax, mot, servicing fuel etc. should I calculate? Also, loan interest - is it the full amount, and should that include the loan on the car?

I know this is a lot to ask, and you're thinking get an accountant, but I really don't have that option, and really hope someone can help me.

THanks, Jackie x

Its really not possible to know the answers to these questions without seeing the previous years' accounts and self assessments. Depreciation is not allowable for tax purposes, so you would need to see the capital allowances computation for last year to do this years.
You need to include all your car running costs including loan interest in your accounts and then add back the 50% private use on your SA.
I am fearing for you tryng to do this unaided. You must at least obtain last years accounts, CA comps and copy tax return from your ex accountant.

  • I've got last year's, just not 100% sure about the figures, or how he worked them out, but I've spent most of the night reading the online Revenue manuals, so think I might be getting somewhere.
