Lightbulb :-)

Hello Again everyone!
I don't know if anyone remembers but I was on here a while ago being a little too blaze about how much I owe and how much I spend. I have now been completely brutally honest with myself and worked out I owe a grand total of £14,716.40p and I have savings of £0.

I have done some shuffling about to ensure I am paying the minimum interest and I have set up a savings account with my bank that rewards you with a higher interest rate if you don't touch your money. I have also worked out exactly how well off I will be when I have finally paid everything off which is working as a great incentive!

I walked to work this morning instead of using my car and I have brought my own packed lunch - even roped my fella into helping (we are putting some items on ebay tonight and possibly doing a car boot this weekend) and we are trying to come up with ideas about things we can do together that don't cost any money (no dirty jokes there please)

i just want to say thatnk you to everyone who replied to my last post and told me to get real and also thank you to Martin for all the emails - I read every single one!!

Thanks again xx:j

Are boot sales worth the effort? The only reason I ask is that I've checked our local ones and they charge about £8 for a pitch (with car). So that's already £8 down on profit. Plus whenever I've been to boot fairs late in the day, most people seem to still have loads to sell.

    What do you reckon?
  • :T Good luck with it all!!

Every little helps!! My friend made £80 a couple of weeks ago and paid £7 for her pitch so not too bad.

  • £2 coin savers club is where we save £2 coins!! Some of us have become a bit obsessive about them!! (Me included!!) and the grocery challenge is over on the Old Style board, gives ideas to cut down on your grocery shopping. I went from spending about £160 a month for just me to £80 a month now because of the grocery challenge. Also try the store cupboard challenge, quite a good way of getting rid of bits and pieces and starting again food-wise.

oooh where do i find the store cupboard challenge?
I do my food shopping at asda and buy a heck of a lot of smart price stuff cause most of it is really nice! I reckon I spend about £60 - £80 per month on food for just me.

You're absolutely right about that! My problem is that I'm a terrible hoarder (and sentimental) and have difficulty getting rid of things. When I picture myself at a boot fair, I see myself with about five things to flog! lol

Truth is, our attic is bursting with my c**p and my parents would love me to get rid of it. I'm also not sure what to charge for things. I've got a lot of cuddly toys from when I was a little girl and wouldn't know how to price them. A couple of them cost me about 10p from boot fairs 20 yrs ago!

What is the going rate for specific items these days?

Whenever I do car boots, i always ask the person what they are willing to pay for the item and the haggle (i.e. backwards!) if they say, "how much is this?" then i will ask what they would like to pay for it and if they say "how about £5" I will say that I can sell it to them for £6 or something like that
