I use a dahl recipe from Madhur Jaffrey's Curry Bible (the library could probably get it in for you) It's made with yellow split peas, onion, garlic, chillies, turmeric, a bit of salt & water......I think that really is it! Made it last night along with aubergine curry to use up some of our aubergine crop. It keeps well in the fridge a couple of days and freezes well. My partner loves it and always asks me to double up the recipe so he can take some to work to heat up in the microwave. It's very cheap & filling and you can make it as mild or hot as you like.

  • Thanks Marmalize I did your recipe this evening for my housemates using chicken thiats (£2.49 for 1kg from Lidl) and they all seemed to love it.

Thank you everyone for all the amazing suggestions - I wont be short of future meals for the coming weeks/months.
