I've done it - Thank you

Hi all,

Yesterday I became debt free for the first time in 30 years:j Although I have not been a regular poster on the forum I can honestly say that if it was not for the DFW forum this momentus occassion would never have happened. So just want to thank you all and quickly tell you of my DFW journey in the hope that it will help others in the way that have been inspired by by so many others.

My LBM occured in June 2007 as I walked out of the bank after arranging my 3rd remortgage to pay off credit cards. After coming home and finding this site I soon returned to the bank and cancelled the remortgage, determined to pay off the debt myself.

Over the last 2 years I have signed up for lots of challenges and failed at most, but despite this I have been helped in so many ways. I have reclaimed my bank charges, begun matched betting and raised my income through ebaying and mystery shopping. However, the most important thing I have learned is to budget and to ask myself each time I take my purse out of my bag 'do I need this'

One of my main weaknesses was the lure of a relaxing holiday in the sun and too many were booked using my credit card without a thought about how it would be paid for. These have been put on hold during my debt free journey but tommorrow I fly out for a weeks holiday, saved for and paid with cash not credit. For me this is a real achievement and I know that learning to save for what you want is an important lesson for me to have learned.

So thank you all, and good luck with your own debt free quest

Jess
