bit off topic but that vanish stuff in the pink tub is fantastic for whites, perhaps you could use some of that with the liquid for whites?

It used to get my brother's chef whites clean and sparkling when he was at college, even when he did butchery and used to come home looking like he'd killed someone _pale_

I can't remember why but I was once told that liquid detergents were bad for you washing machine, that why i don't use them, i can't recall why though:o

We were told by a repair man that the liquid detergents rot the rubber around the door,as it collects all the gunge in it. Don't know if its true cos we always use powder and 'cut 'it with soda crystals to make it go further.

Thank you for that. I knew there was some reason liquids weren't good for the machine. I also recall that the gunge ends up making the machine smell bad too
  • I use powder but I put it in a jug with some hot water to dissolve it first so it all goes into the wash and doesn't clog the drawer

Brilliant idea - I'm gonna start doing that when my current stash of liquid runs out as I'll be back on the powder - just bought Daz from MrS 80 washes for £8 but as I use half the amount I'll get 160 ish washes for £8.

I always use bold tablets, the compressed powder ones. It's a little more expensive than powder but they are so much easier carrying them back from the supermarket!
  • washing machine repair man told me not to put powder in the drawer because it can clog up pipes etc. He said if using powder put it in a dosing ball in the machine.

I now use liquids - either Mr S's own brand ...for most things...or Ariel Gel - fror cricket whites. I use half the recomended amount, add soda crystals in an additional dosing ball....and add white vinegar to the rinse!

The result:- clean washing...brilliantly sparkly machine(!) and lots of pennies saved!
