You need to get on the electoral roll, just ring your local council or go on-line and register.
You need to get a copy of your credit file from Experian and/or Equifax and see what's on there that may stop you from gaining credit.
Are you on the phone?...if not get listed in the BT book (don't go x-directory).
Loan companies like it if you have been working and living at the same place for a long time as it demonstrates stability.
That your renting will not stop you from obtaining credit.
Every month you pay back on a credit card or loan on time a "0" will appear on your credit file, the more "0"'s the better!
If you miss payments or are late this will not be good for your credit file.
If having got your credit file for your address its a mess with CCJ's/defaults blah blah...and your able to...then just move and don't make mention of that old address again-have nothing that will link back to it, as CCJ's etc it will all stay on your file for 6 years....maybe you have just returned to this country from working abroad for some 6+ years ;-)
Good luck!0
