Tax/NI check

I have just been reading loupyloulou's thread on her payrise ( ) and there were a couple of threads posted about checking the tax/NI wepay.

The links were these:

http://www.wellwoodhoyle.com/ard/calculators/payslip.asp

http://www.taxcentral.co.uk/taxcentral/home/employment/payslipcalculator/default.asp

I checked my payslip in both and although they both give me the same figures, they are different than those on my payslip

Could you please give me some advice on this - perhaps check your payment slip, if you are brave enough ;) and then we can compare findings?

I guess my worry is that I will have a big bill to pay in the future because of potentially underpaying tax/NI :o

and the figure that came out was only a few pence (less than a £1) difference to what my salary is normally.....as the local council does mine I'm assuming that that's right!

My thoughts are that so long as your employer is using update software their figure should be right.

    Thanks MOD

I work for a local authority and never checked this info before. My PAYE comes out £55 more than what I pay. NI comes out about £20 more.

I am really worried now  I shall enquire with our payroll tomorrow.

    Thanks again.

tax depends upon whether you pay into a pension
NI depends upon whether you pay into a pension and what exactly its conditions are..(i.e. are you contract in or out?)
post all your exact details and the situation of your pension scheme and it should be possible to work it all out.

    Thanks Clapton.

I am a permanent full time employee and pay into the Logal Government pension scheme.

Do think the difference could be justified because of this?

I have to say I am embarrassed I never looked into any of this before :o

    Thanks for your help.

Here's another place to check your payslip

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/employers/

You should see a tools column on the right, select National Insurance Calculator or PAYE Calculator.

Your must be in the correct tax year as limit and band change between tax years.

    Josie,

you may well be entitled to tax back if you did no other work that year.

Here's the government guide to claiming it back.
