We've just come to the end of the Scottish Power end of aug 09 fixed tariff and are waiting to see where to switch - if anywhere. As posted elsewhere we're very high users (according to our bills but not in reality) and were wondering where people who've hung on till now to switch had switched to?

    I'm struggling with this.

I have had an Economy 7 tariff for years. It seems I could save money by moving to a non E7 tariff.
That lets me out of SP. They will only do it with a meter swap, at my expense.
EON fixonline comes top of the comparison sites. But thats a fixed deal and I'm not sure thats the right way to go.
BG websaver 4 looks ok. I'm waiting for a reply to an email I sent them.

If I stayed an an E7 tariff I would probably go with SP Online saver 6. It would save the hassle of switching.

With my usage profile I'm switching to EON SaveOnline Standing charge plan - worked out roughly the same as EDF v6 and a lot less than SP's original "alternative"

Just been doing a comparison with our current dual fuel deal (npower fixed 2011 dual fuel) vs e-on fixonline v3 dec 2010 dual fuel is slightly cheaper plus I can get Tesco points on my spend. So would save about £50/year counting the Tesco points at full gift value i.e 4x face value. Plus I can get £62 via Quidco cash back for swapping.

Minor differences like a £30 exit penalty with eon and it finishes a month earlier than the npower fixed price deal.

But the general opinion seems to be that energy prices will fall slightly this year so I am undecided whether to change yet. Prices would have to fall by 7%+ to match the savings for a swap over a year.

Your comments would be welcome. Thanks

it's not easy is it? At least now we've been moved to scottish power 'standard' rate, I hope, it will be easier to compare prices on the comparison sites as we will be comparing tru cost rather than 'projected cost' when we were on fixed. Sometimes I wish it was the "good old days" where you just went with British gas and (in our case) Yorkshire electric or whoever your local supplier was. yes, we were probably ripped off but we were none the wiser!
  • Re: Npower capped 2011 online dual fuel.

Have just spoken to npower customer services. Not sure if they were right but operator said.
    - There was no exit/cancellation fee for changing to another supplier.
    - That end date for this tariff is July 2011 ( I was told 31.12.10 when I went on the tariff).
    - If I wanted I could change to a cheaper tariff just for electric and retain the beneficial rate for gas and this would have no effect on the £100 DD yearly bonus. Suggested alternate electric tariff was sign online 16.
    - Overall suggestion "speak to our retention team on 0800 3160805 I'm sure they will be able to help you"
