National zero waste week

I know some of you have written about reducing your waste in the past. Well next week it's National zero waste week. Last year the site did a huge pledge and win competition, but this year things are low key with a 'call to action'.

If you feel inspired, why not join in by committing to make one change to the amount of rubbish you throw away each week? So far they've suggested taking your own reusable bag to the shop, giving up bottled water, reducing food waste, reusing things instead of throwing them away etc

I have been following The Greens since their website started.

I also now have my landfill bag down to approx 250g average per week, and this is mainly plastic that can't be recycled anywhere local to me.

My Household Waste Recycling Centre(HWRC) is very good and I can take loads there that would otherwise go into landfill.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 27). Hubby also a found daughter (38).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (12 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (13, 10 & 6).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman
  • Hmmm, I think I will still be using the toilet, Freddie_snowbits; I don't tend to chuck *that* sort of waste in the landfill!!

That's great mama67; you're doing brilliantly to have your landfill bag so low, especially with two hungry boys in the house!

I quite like the suggestion on another thread, of making soup from what is normally tipped onto the compost heap.
SO had a look yesterday in my kitchen caddy...er...not sure about that.
  • Between the compost heap and recycling I just have plastic waste now. Just made some excellent tea-bag soup.
