I find first thing on a Saturday morning is pretty quiet, as long as I get home in time for Saturday Kitchen I'm happy. Heh.

I don't use any of the big local supermarkets as there is too much choice and I end up with things I think are a bargain and that I need when I put them in the trolley, but when I get to the till I'm always in for a nasty shock. Instead I do my shopping once a wk with a combination of Aldi and Farmfoods (only using my wkly shopping allowance coz am doing May Benefit Challenge). Aldi often have reduced fresh fruit and veg what ever time you go and both Farmfood are amazing for frozen (Birdseye especially coz no additives). I then go to my local Costco once a month to bulk buy washing powder and essentials. They also have a bakery where you can buy trays of muffins & cakes which I buy and freeze at least half at a time.

I used to go after dropping Junior off at school, which had the advantage that the shops were reasonably quiet and well-stocked. Unfortunately there were slim pickings on the Reduced shelf! Now I'm working I shop on my way home at about 3.30, better for reduced prices but the shop is full of kids.

I have occasionally gone at about 7PM in search of bargains, but you can't guarantee that there will be anything worth having. At that time of the evening I'd rather be at home eating dinner in front of Coronation Street :p

Very occasionally I've been to the 24 hour supermarket in the middle of the night when it is wonderfully quiet, but the aisles are full of delivery crates and there are big gaps in the fresh produce displays.

About once every 4-6 weeks I do a big shop at ASDA (too far to travel in between times) straight after school and make Junior help me push the trolleys. It's the most convenient time for me but it's a horrible time to shop, busy and full of squawking kids (except mine who's perfect :A )

Well I have 3 kids and I dont drive so hubs and I HAVE to go with the kids, and yes they do play up because they are tired after a day at school and they have to do the shopping with us, i think you should be a bit more understanding and not call them squawking kids.
    I take offence to that.

    Vodka queen,

Totally agree...my 3 yr old son is well behaved most of the time..untill we step foot in a supermarket!..its a fact..most kids hate shopping and will throw tantrums in the aisles, especially if there tired or hungry OR BOTH....then the real tantrums begin!!

I usually do mine on a weekday at about 9.30am. I do my shopping in Iceland as I've found it to be the cheapest in the high street and have it delivered for free.

The only time that is quiet nowadays in my local Tesco is early morning between 7 and 8 I have tried all other times and even asked when is a quiet time but thats it .... I hate shopping when its busy and I find online shopping just doesn't work for me especially fresh stuff.....

Good lord woman, get a sense of humour  Of course kids make a noise in supermarkets, it can happen to anyone and I'm sure mine made his fair share of noise when he was little. If anyone called him noisy I'd have to agree with them, it was horrible dragging him round the shops some days. Children in supermarkets are indeed tired, hungry, bored, cranky etc and some of them make a lot of noise about it. It isn't offensive, it's a statement of fact. I understand why it happens but that doesn't mean I have to pretend it doesn't bother me.

Now I've got a day off and I can go to Asda when it's relatively quiet :D
