Being chased for old debt

Hi. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this
I received a letter today from Credit Resource Solutions Ltd stating that they had taken over the debt from Lowell and may take me to court if not paid in 7 days.
The debt is for Capital One dating back to beginning of 2002.
As I hae not had any contact with either Lowells etc regarding this debt can I just send a statute barred letter to them?
Thanks in advance

Hi Beanie,
If you haven't acknowledged the debt in writing or made a payment topwards it in the last six years, then yes.
Unless there is a CCJ, of course, which is rather unlikely!

Thanks Jes
Do I just send the letter and leave it at that?0 -
I believe so - send it recorded delivery so they can't lie about receiving it, and (as usual with DCAs just type/print your name, don't use your signature (in case they try forging letters from you acknowledging the debt, similar things have been known...).
