Commtel Phone Guard Problem, it doesn't block calls!? :(

I bought a Commtel Phone Guard off of ebay recently, and installed it. It appears to work to start off... I can successfully use the phone pad of my phone to programme it. And the lights on the phone guard appear correct etc...
But, it doesn't block calls. I bought new batteries, still got the same problem. I tried a different phone plugged in, same problem, i tried taking out the broadband and only plugging the phone in, no luck.
The phone guard unit beeps and LED flashes red to indicate it is going to block the call, but the call still goes through and it dials.
Anyone got any idea of the problem? I'm with Tiscali...
It would appear at the moment that I've wasted money money on the phone guard and a new set of batteries
I desperately need to stop mobiles being dialed from my landline!
Thanks for any help

A Phone Guard blocks all* calls by default. You have to program it to allow certain calls (e.g. 080, 01, 02, 03).
* Except 999 and 112
Thinking about it, was it secondhand like so much on ebay? If it was, are you sure the previous owner(s) haven't programmed it to allow some calls you don't want to allow?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Sorry, I mean it is currently allowing ALL calls to be made, even though its plugged in, and APPEARS to be working (it beeps, and LED flashes red) but the calls are still allowed...0

No ones had this problem then?

Looks like I wasted my money on this phone guard I guess. I just presumed it would work with every single phone line/outlet...0 -
Hang on a minute, have you added something else to the mix there?TangerineDream wrote: »Looks like I wasted my money on this phone guard I guess. I just presumed it would work with every single phone line/outlet...
Are you now saying you've fitted a Phone Guard to one socket and expect it to work on all sockets in the house? It won't, it'll work on the one socket onto which you have fitted it.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
