my husband and i have just agreed to a dmp to get ourselves sorted out but since we have not signed anything yet or had any paperwork back we are not sure if we need to continue paying our debts as normal until it is up and running. we only spoke to an advisor last night and one of our payments are due today. what do we do?

Dont pay anything until you have had your paperwork. I am sure it will reach you quickly.
In the meantime I would stock up on stamps, pens, paper and envelopes. You will need lots.Tescos are selling off stationery at the mo.
I spent some time collecting all the last statements so you have all addresses, balances etc.
Good luck with it.0 -
did you mean don't pay the dmp company anything until the paperwork has arrived or did you mean not to pay our bill today as we have agreed to a plan. i know i probably sound a bit dull but never had to do anything like this before so i am not sure.thanks0

Hi crusty, and welcome
Can I just ask who you are going to use for your DMP? Hopefully you are going with one of the free Debt Charity DMPs and not paying a fee for it? The fee paying companies cannot do anything for you that you or the charities (CCCS, PayPlan etc.) can't, and we also have a fair bit of anecdotal evidence that creditors prefer to deal with the charities and are more likely to stop charges/interest etc. as they know they are getting as much money as you can afford, rather than losing some to the DMP company.

Can I just ask who the DMP company is? Just to make sure it's a free one not one that charges you.
Don't pay your creditors anything since you're setting up a DMP, or pay £1 and explain that they'll be hearing from the DMP company.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Great minds think alike!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
