Bank charges refund

I recently had £50 in charges added to my Abbey account and I was going to add up my charges going back 6 years and send them a letter to see if they would pay up. As I was going back over my statements I realised that I haven't had any changes added to my account in the past three years (what a good girl I've been!!! lol) so i decided to bite the bullet and phone them.
I stated that I felt it was unfair of the Abbey to charge me for going over my overdraft limit as my account has been in the black for the past three years. I got the charges and the fee lifted just like that - I was shocked!!
For those of you who have only been in the red for the past month, give your bank a call and they may for once be helpful and refund you the charges!!:j

The local branch do have the ability to refund some charges up to a certain value but anything too big and they will refuse and then you have to start legal action. That's the general consensus from the CAG.0

I don't think it was the local branch I telephoned - I'm sure it was somewhere in India.0

lol well replace "local branch" with front line support then.
Thank you, come again.0 -
Well I'm glad someone had something reasonable from Abbey. When I called and explained I hadn't incurred any charges for at least two years, the response I got was "so?"
Refused to put me through to a supervisor, so sent them the letter relating to unfair bank charges, and got snotty letter saying if I want to go through small claims, I can however they will close all my accounts with immediate effect when my claim is submitted and I will have to pay back any moneys owed immediately, and if I dont like it theyre very sorry but maybe I should bank elsewhere!!!!!
So thats what Im slowly but surely doing, including taking my CC balance (with interest of 22.9%! and PPI) somewhere else!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
I am currently in an IVA, but was looking at my Capital One statements over the past 18 months and was wondering if this would stop me from trying to reclaim any charges incurred for late payments (£20 a time). If anyone thinks it is worth pursuing I would welcome their advice.0

I did the same once, the bank changed the way its computer worked (used to put credits before debits, and changed to basically what ever order it came in) so although i paid in enough money to pay the standing order that was going out that day, because i didnt pay it in early enough, they returned the standing order and charged me for the privilage!!!!! I had not had any bank charges for donkeys years, so rang them, explained how i had not had charges before and was dissappointed in how they had changed their system and not clearly notifying people, and they refunded it there and then!!!! Always worth giving them a ring and seeing what you can do!!!!!0
