Applying for loans online v. in person
Hi,
Thought I'd see if anyone understands this. I've tried for a while now to get a loan of £20,000 through my bank (Lloyds) to cover flying training costs. I'm only working part-time on quite a low salary because I'm studying. Although I said that I would either get a flying job after finishing training or go back into IT to get a well-paid job there, they turned me down. They were prepared to consider it if I could get a guarantee from my old employer to take me back on in 6 months time.
Out of curiosity I started applying for an Lloyds loan online instead, just to see what would happen. I was quite nervous I'd end up accepting something by mistake.
The Lloyds website signed me into my online accounting, and took me through a very simple set of screens. I didn't lie about anything, but it didn't ask my income. At the end it said I had to be sure about being able to make repayments. It gave me an acceptance for a loan of £22,000 which even included a 4 month repayment holiday at the start !
How can this happen, when in person they wont approve my loan ? Is it just their loans system being a bit reckless ?
Any thoughts ?

sounds odd to me - the fact that it did not ask you about your income0
