Yikes, Red Wax off a Cream Carpet- HELP!!!

I seem to have done nothing but ask questions lately, but haven't been led astray yet (thanks). Latest dilemma - my son (has learning difficulties) was obviously trying to help clear the dining room table last night and spilt red candle wax all over the cream carpet. I hope i did the right thing by letting it dry, but now, what is the best plan of attack - its in a really obvious place - well, thats just my luck. I'm proud of him that he is trying to help around the house so didn't go mad, will just have to talk to him about it but don't want to have a sign of his independence everytime we eat. Thanks in anticipation.

Get a brown paper bag (difficult I know) or perhaps some kitchen towel. Then set your iron to a warm setting and iron the bag over the red wax. This is supposed to get rid of the wax, not sure about the colour. Maybe you'd need to try a stain devil or perhaps a weak bleach solution.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • A roll of brown paper from the stationers shop works too. Be very patient, and cover the surrounding area as well in case you iron over the edge of the paper and singe or melt the carpet. I've done that :(
No, Mr A, that is NOT 'Great news'!!:D

    Wombling totals: Oct = £243.32 - £93.32 over target!
Nov Wombling Tally: £27.36 so far... behind target :(

Pick off as much as you can, without damaging the pile of the carpet, then brown paper and a very cool iron. It takes a while but it does work .... a pair of cream candles onto a blue carpet for me ;-)

    Best of luck,

now its dry scraped up as much as you can with a butter knife - then follow directions above Brown paper and warm iron tips. you may need quite a lot of paper, just keep moving paper to clean bit until hardly any or none is ironed up. If you do get a red stain try sponging with soapy water first and if that doesnt work then try proprietry stain remover. or i am sure another poster will have a great home-made tip for you - good luck ive got a cream carpet too and find good oldfashioned soap works on most stains.

if you have big blobs of it that will crack off easily, take them off before you iron - no sense in spreading it any further ;)

if you have a spare cotton cloth that you can throw out afterwards you might prefer to use that as it absorbs grease more quickly than the paper.

The other thing is, that sometimes a hairdryer is more effective than an iron, particularly if your carpet is foam backed - but it does need to be on hot and not on the lowest setting.

As esmf73 says, you might be left with a stain from the colour and may then have to try a proprietary brand of stain remover.

    Good luck :)

Melt the wax gently with a hairdryer and dab it off. If it's stubborn add a little lemon juice, the lemonine (an organic molecule) in it will help dissolve the residue.

My bathroom looks like that when I have dyed my hair (red wine colour). It scared me the first time! :rotfl:
