Deleted credit agreement - what does this mean?

Hi all,

I've just taken a look at my credit report, and a credit card agreement has been deleted (i was notified by email by equifax).

This agreement relates to a debt, there was a default registered too, and I have to say it's not one I'm paying back at the mo as they haven't contacted me yet.

Would they delete the agreement if they've sold the debt on? I have no idea what's going on, and it's un-nerved me a bit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is the account closed? Closed accounts fall off your file after 6 years?
If the debt was sold on, it wouldn't be deleted - you may be able to contact equifax to query this.

  • Thanks George for your reply.

I defaulted on the account around 3 years ago, there's quite a bit of money outstanding, but because they haven't contacted me yet, I've been hammering my other debts to get rid of them first - I suppose I've been waiting for them to get in touch!

I just can't understand why the agreement would be deleted - I still owe money. I'm worried though about contacting equifax in case it opens up a new can of worms! Things are especially tight at the moment as my OH is on short time, with a rather increased risk of redundancy.

Equifax should be able to tell you without contacting the creditor - i would do this on the phone rather than email.

Hopefully the creditor won't notice for another 3 years ;)

  • Right, I'll try and gather the courage to do that this week!

Thanks for your advice, I'd convinced myself they were selling the debt on and I would be having a new load of letters, and people coming to see me....

    Thanks again, I appreciate it.

If people are coming to your door or even threatening to, there are template letters you can send to stop this.
