OR interview and Car

Hello all,
Absolutely terrified as my interview is soon and I need to tackle the issue of the car...

We live in Nrth America where the car is king, we have a local shuttle bus thing which runs about once per hour, and the kids just live in a sector not covered by a school bus(which if you take it is $400 per year!! per child!!) so we have two cars...

Booo I hear you say, however one is a pickup truck, we bought it for the equivelent of 6000 stg, there is still outstanding finance on it of approximately 5000stg on it, plus it needs about 500$ of maintence to be done on it. The payment is about 150 stg per month.
I have to have a vehicle for work as i work shifts, I have a 60km round commute per day, and occassionally i have to work extra shifts which involve tacking an extra 20-30 km on to the journeys round trip. Its about 3-4 times per month we have to do this.
Why a pickup you say, well its an 04, it was bought as sadly it was far cheaper then a new/newer vehicle, and where we live your average Ford focus cannot cope with the roads in Winter, which for 4-5 months are covered in ice or about 2 feet of snow. Also without the truck in such weather we couldnt do simple things like a grocery shop either. (No tesco delivery here!!).

With the second car its a lemon of the highest order, its a 01 Windstar equivelent to a frod galaxy. Its a junker and needs a new transmission, which cost about $2000-3000 here. We're hoping the wifes step dad can come here in the winter and fix it for cheap. Its insured as its on a public road here, and if you dont insure it, they tow it and fine the hell out of you.

That car was in our joint names and the truck is in my name but was bought with some of my wifes money.

Are we stuffed?? Theres no cheapo cars as in the UK 2000stg will get you a good car, not here, that will buy you a money pit of rust!!
