ASDA not accepting printable vouchers

I went in to Asda at the weekend and handed over my usual £5.00 or so of downloaded internet vouchers to the young man on the till. He said that he thought they didn't take them any more (sharp intake of breath from me!). He queried it with a manager who confirmed this (another sharper intake of breath from me).

I stated that I had always given them and they had been received without question, but to no avail they would not accept them. I rang Customer Service today and another young man stated that they have NEVER accepted internet vouchers. I said that for some time now my local store had been accepting them until the weekend and I begged to differ. He then said that there must have been a mistake as Asda do not accept them. One of the big reasons I shop at Asda is that I can use vouchers for items I haven't actually bought without question. What am I going to do now? I shop at Asda each week and spend around £50.00 which reduces to £45.00 once I had the vouchers reduced - this now is clearly not going to happen. Has anyone else had problems? Do they accept them at other supermarkets?

Hi, I remember a few weeks ago there was a thread saying they were stopping internet vouchers because they were being abused.

Normal manufactors vouchers are fine still, so if you can get any of those - sometimes in newspapers, magazines etc, I know they will still accept those.

I phoned Asda Cardiff Bay today and queried their voucher policy, due to my excessive Tesco shopping to get points I really do fancy a change of scenery and store !

Anyway, they told me they do not accept any internet printed vouchers, but are willing to take up to 3 of the same identical voucher as long as it does not exceed 10% of my total shopping bill. Asda here I come ..........

When I first began using vouchers/printed internet coupons, I took the precaution of phoning my local stores (Asda, Tesco etc.) and asking to speak to the Store Manager to ask their specific policy.

Asking Head Office in some instances isn't the way to get a definative answer because Store Managers often have license to determine their own policies on some issues - otherwise, how else can they impliment and trial initiatives

I can only state that my local Asda *did* accept internet vouchers at one point - although, to be fair, I haven't presented any for a while because for ethical reasons I tend not to use Asda for my primary shopping. To state categorically that Asda have NEVER accepted internet vouchers is clearly UNTRUE. However, it *may* be true that they have altered their stance on them if they have been abused or they have simply changed their policy for other reasons.

Perhaps you could write a couple of letters, one to your local store manager and one to Asda Head Office and see if you can get a definitive answer?

If they have withdrawn their policy to honour internet vouchers, that is their perogative and there is little you can do about it.

Be clear what your bone of contention is. Is it that they *no longer* accept internet vouchers, or, is it a case that you are irked because they are not being honest by stating they have *never* accepted internet vouchers? Be clear - even if it encompasses *both* points. In the first instance, it's clearly disappointing if they no longer accept them; in the second instance they are clearly not being 100% truthful (as you and I can both testify) and there is nothing worse than being told you are fibbing when you are not!!!! (Well, in my opinion anyway :rotfl: )

As for other supermarkets, I suggest you do the same, contact their Store Manager to see what the policy is regarding internet vouchers. At least that way, you will know prior to presenting them where the land lies, so that, if you are challenged by the cashier, you can quote the conversation you had with the Store Manager.

My local Asda at Minworth have never accepted internet vouchers, and in the last couple of months they have started refusing the ones for money off magazines that are often printed in Sunday newspapers. I have been told twice that I have to buy the magazine so I have not bothered trying them since.

I have found exactly the same at Minworth. They will accept proper food /household product vouchers. My mother shops there and I used to be able to save her a few pounds , but now I can't. I shop at Tesco where they will take magazine and paper vouchers, but only up to a maximum of 5.

My ASDA is still accepting internet vouchers. I used some on Saturday and had no problem with them. Got £4.80 off my bill.

I usually try to stick to the same lad who accepts as many as I give him (including multiples of the same ones), because the first time he checked, the supervisor told him "yes, if we stock the item, take the vouchers..."

My local Morrisons also take them, although they do tend to stick to the 10% only rule (unless I can find a young, willing hap to take more!)

My local Tesco accepts them too, and again, will normally take as many as I give them.....

Thanks to all for your replys. Thanks to Queenie for that good advice also. I may just have to bit the bullet and pay the price minus the "original" vouchers that I have and not internet ones. I will write and see what they say. Asda are quite cheap on the whole, especially with this Roll Back policy at the moment, so I will keep going there.

I shop at the one on the Queslett Road in Great Barr, and in Oldbury (West Mids) and have found that they still accept them - must admit tho, I usually put one or two in with a pile of other vouchers.

My mom was refused tho, so I think it just depends who you get on the till. I'd keep trying, just put one or two in with your other vouchers and just have it back it if they say no. Take it along on your next shop, and try again.

They can only say no.
