Hi,
Does anyone have any thoughts about which of these two retailers are generally cheaper for a "typical" trolley of groceries?
Thanks!

depends what you buy. I find costco cheaper for bulk buying the following: loo roll, kitchen roll, washing up liquid, washing power, fabric conditioner, cans of pepsi max, oat so simple sachets, chicken breasts, cheese, scan meatballs, birthday cakes, baked beans, contact lens, contact lens solution, nutella, and vanilla essence. plus others that i cant remember (does depend what im running low on and whats on offer)
ok it costs me a few hundred every time i go but it really does save me money in the long run.
what i do the night before im going shoping is right a list of what i want and note the prices of asda/supermarket and then go to costco and only buy what works out cheaper and then stop by the supermarket on the way home.Debt free 3 years early :j
Savings for house deposit - very healthy
Cash back earnt so far £14.570 -
As the previous poster said, you will spend a huge amount of money in Costco but what you buy will last you a long time, we used to go only 3 times a year. Asda is possibly cheaper on some items but the quality will be vastly different, I have not bought anything in Costco which was not excellent quality, the frozen meat and fish is the best I have ever had.0

I think meat is about the same price, but much better quality at Cosco then at Asda.
There is only 2 of us - so I go and spend £50 about once a month or every 6 weeks on meat, divide it up and then buy just fruit&veg in supermarket.
I generally get:
Chicken breasts
Lamb chops
Pork shoulder
Pork loin
Beef braising steak
And usually some fish - smoked haddock is absolutely out of this world.
Also frozen raw grey prawns (1kg).
Then I buy in bulk cereal/elevenses bars.
If I go with my sis then we go half on tomatoes, which are usually very nice. Also salami and cheese.
I also get cakes there for parties - beatifull carrot cake, and big!!
There is too much toilet paper in the bag for us (it would take up half of my bathroom:rotfl:), but I do get Vanish Oxy and Dettol spray there.0 -
Costco frozen fish is really good, I have tried many other places and they just don't compare, often frozen fish defrosts with a huge quantity of water coming out, not the case with Costco, it's just fish! Their scallops are really good value too and not 50% ice! :eek:0

I completely agree with you there. I love their prawns and for £7.99 for 1kg is much cheaper then in any supermarket. And they are good quality and raw - reheated already cooked prawns completely lose texture (well, they are too hard) and taste.
Their fresh fish is also good value - 1/2 de-skinned salmon is great for parties or dinners with friends.0
