I was just wondering if my fellow money savers can tell me where the best value for money lies with the following as I want to cut as much money possible with my food shopping.
1) Which Supermarket is best for frozen foods such as Birds Eye frozen meats?
2)Are Supermarkets better value for money when compared against butchers, fishmongers and delicatessens
3)Which Supermarkets do the best offers food wise
Any feedback would be greatly recieved:D

crikey, how long is a piece of string?!
um, i'll give it a bash anyway:
1) Farmfoods/Iceland seem to do lots of deals on frozen as that is primarily their business....
2) Supermarkets are not always better value for money. Indeed, some MSE'ers find local shops can be just as cheap (especially if you dont need to drive to them).
3) That's a very general question - it depends what you're looking for. Traditionally, the most BOGOFs etc came from Morrisons/Tesco/Sainsburys, with Asda trailing, but Asda seem to be doing more too now.
I think you really need to look through the forums and see what catches your eye-certain place will have certain offers at certain times, and it's up to you to go get them!
Don't forget the likes of Aldi/Lidl/Netto - you can get very high quality items for a lot less in these shops, although you may struggle to do a full weekly shop in them.
Hope this helps. The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.
It's LOSE, NOT LOOSE.

Hi
I buy my fresh meat from a butchers as its generally the same price as a supermarket but chicken potions tend to be alot bigger!. As i am lactose intolerent i can't have meat from a supermarket as all fresh meat is injected with lactose (its used as a preservative)..Meat from a butchers tastes much better anyway:)0 -

I think that's because Asda prices are on average lower accross the board than Sainsburys or Tesco which means they have less scope for offers.
If you are willing to go into a shop just for BOGOFs then Asda can't compete, but if you want to do the full weekly shop I think you'll end up better off there.
Much cheaper are the likes of Lidl and similar. However I find their stuff hit and miss. You know when you miss because the food tastes horrible. Find the right products though and they are a bargain. They also do great promotions from time to time. More a place to pick up the odd bargain than do a comprehensive shop.0 -

You'll find that most people here wouldn't dream of using a lot of frozen foods such as 'birds eye's frozen meats'. Most people on these boards would buy the meat fresh and then make it up into something yummy themselves.
I do agree with the comment about ASDA. We shift between shopping at Tescos and Asdas and we'll always come away with a bit more for a bit less after going to Asdas. They can do some nice deals occasionally, but I've personally never seen anything to scream about. However, even when taking into account any deals I may have got at Tescos....Asda's is usually the cheapest place for me.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
