Redundancy and BR and a 1 year old!

We will both be automatically discharged on October 1st 2009. BUT! My partner has just been redundant yesterday, as a package he's been told he will get paid roughly his 2 weeks notice they didn't want him to work and 2 weeks pay on top as he'd been there over 2 years. He won't know until the 30th of September how much this will be in total. I know you have to tell the OR about money with 21 days, but we don't how much it will be? By waiting until the 30th and then telling them a couple of days after this is there any chance we will be able to keep his redundancy, as this will be all the money in the world we have to live on with a 1 year :( We have been so good since Br, but due to a low income we haven't got any savings; our 1 year uses any money we have. Please advise

Unfortunatly I think the OR will be interested in this. He won't take it all, only the extra above basic pay.

Give the IS a ring and ask (number in my sig.)

When is OH actually being made redundant, and when will you receive the money? Do both of these happen after 1st October?

  • My partner was made redundant yesterday and he will receive the redundancy payout on the 30th of September, 1 day before we are discharged!!

I'm scared to ring the IS, because I'm really worried we are going to be left with no money to pay the bills and keep a roof over our head. If I use it to pay the rent and bills which is what it normally goes on and then tell them, they'll have to understand it's going to take awhile to pay back?

  • You've made me smile, which is just what I need right now. We've had in a year the nightmare of BR, becoming parents and now redundancy; it's time for some luck :j Still we're all healthy and together and that's all that matters
  • well the way i look at things what with the postal system as it is, i am sure you wont know till after the discharge Wink Wink
