I keep frozen chopped onion in freezer as I can't stand chopping them myself.
They are very tasty, Tesco's own roughly 89p a bag, and just throw them into whatever i'm making at the time
:pwould like to make it known it is not a DHN, she's dancing :p

I buy frozen pea's but we're growing peas this year for the first time, so maybe I'll have my own.

Apart from that, I normally buy one of those "stew packs", chop them all up into about inch and a half cubes, and blanch them.

That gives us about 6 - 7 servings for two of us.

That's a brilliant idea about the stewpacks. They are often reduced to about 50p, and I never thought about preparing and blanching them for the freezer.

I tend to keep tinned veg in stock to fall back on when I'm short of fresh. I never buy more fresh than we can use in the next couple of days, so a couple of times a week we have a tin of peas or green beans.

I generally keep a bag of mixed veg in the freezer, but it lasts for months as we rarely use it. Oh and onion rings, which we do use when we have DIY vegetarian McD's ;) .
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I think that the length of time for steamers to cook any food depends on the make of steamer. I used to have a Delta brand one from Aldi which cooked things really fast (and was great until it stared leaking). Now I have a tefal which is nearly as fast. My mum has a hinari which takes forever. I cook frozen veg for 8 to 10 mins, rice 25mins, potatoes 20 mins, most other fresh veg 15 to 20 mins. I like my veg cooked ie. not al dente (or semi raw) or mushy.

I have always had tefals until the last one which is a Morphy Richards and I hate it.

And I have always cooked it for about 30-40 mins. But find you have to be a but careful with the brocolli it is over cooked it goes all mushy :(

And I always put the potatoes on the bottom and brocolli on the top.

Maybe I need to make my veggies smaller in size or if could be that I over load each basket that is why it takes longer to cook.;) as we love are veggies covered with gravy. Yum Yum Yum.

Strongly doubt any would make it to the cooker or the freezer, or last longer than 5 seconds. Fresh home grown peas are lovely.....and they tend to get eaten straight from the pod and never make it anywhere near a cooking or freezing device of any sort. Far too nice to cook.

    :D Thats quite true :rotfl:

And I never look for them when I don't need them either, so thanks for mentioning about them being reduced, even better :T

Sainsbury's do a Special Mixed Vegetables, peas, sweetcorn, red pepper, carrot and broccoli. I cook it in the microwave, just put the amount you need in a covered dish, I don't add any water or salt. One portion takes 2 mins, if you're doing more just experiment untill they're cooked the way you like them. I'm just off to do some now to go with my fish pie.
